Superintendent Experience
City Schools of Decatur, Decatur, Georgia, April 2003-December 2015
Superintendent of Schools
I took the position of Superintendent of City Schools of Decatur (CSD) in 2003; being sworn in at the then closed Fifth Avenue School. Many challenges awaited me; not the least of which, was the fact of declining enrollment within the system. I presented the Board Members with a comprehensive strategic plan that addressed 5 major goals and over 70 specific strategies with timelines and accountable parties. As part of the Strategic Plan, which has since been revisited and revised, the recommendation was made to close two schools and combine the student population into a different school configuration.
Change Management
Since taking the oath of Superintendent, I can point to some significant milestones that mark my tenure with the City Schools of Decatur:
